Why measure gloss?

Measuring gloss while a product is manufactured can help improve the manufacturing process by identifying process issues, maximising consistency, reducing waste, and overall quality. Surface texture, coating properties, and paint application can all impact the appearance of a coating. While large differences in gloss can be easily detected by the human eye, such as comparing a matte finish on a military asset to a glossy red sports car, smaller differences in gloss can be more difficult to detect—but can still have a significant impact on process control.
